Julius Röntgen’s birth (1855-1932) Julius Röntgen was born exactly 150 years ago. The Julius
Röntgen Foundation is dedicated to
organizing a number of events to mark the occasion and to keep
the
memory of Julius Röntgen alive and to make Röntgen’s life and
work more widely
known. Julius Röntgen was a Dutch composer and one of the
founders of the
Amsterdam Conservatory. A key figure in the Dutch music scene at the
end of the
19th and the beginning of the 20th century, he composed numerous works
(chamber
music, as well as orchestral music), organised musical events, taught
the
piano, and performed himself. In connection with this
Julius Röntgen Year, a Program Book has been published
with extensive
information about the composer and the concert programs in Amsterdam,
Bilthoven
and The Hague. The book, entitled “Sentendo Nuova Forza” is available
from
Albersen, Broekmans & van Poppel and from the Dutch Music Institute
(het
Nederlands Muziek Instituut).
