Dutch folk life in summer

In the 1920s Julius Röntgen wrote the music for four folkloristic films by film maker Dirk Jan van der Ven (1891-1973): the Spring film (1922), Summer film (1923), Autumn film (1926) and the Zuiderzee film (1928). At this time the cinema was as yet a silent art form and Röntgen himself accompanied these films many times, at the Amsterdam Ceintuur Theatre and at other cinema theatres throughout the Netherlands.
